I have designed a new carpet animation called Kingfisher and Heron, the animation will be projected during Happy Rooms in Middlesbrough Town Hall curated by @stellar_creates_events from the 27th July to 30th August 2026. You will be able to step onto a glowing carpet of light, colour and pattern that shifts beneath your feet, creating a calm, dreamlike world you’ll want to wander through again and again.
This is a brand new commission which has never been seen before, when I was making the carpet art, I based the design on the native flora and fauna of the North East and the British Isles.
In the artwork there is a beautiful soundtrack composed by my friend Peter Chilvers. The installation blends digital art, intricate traditional symmetrical carpet design inspired by Islamic carpets and gentle sounds into a mesmerising experience inspired by the North East region. This room will be peaceful, playful and pretty magical, I hope you can come and see it.
